South Africa is the continent's economic powerhouse and as such continues to prove an attractive draw to many looking to settle in Africa for the first time. Despite South Africa's controversial past and continued challenges and difficulties that the Rainbow Nation will face in the future, there are many fantastic places to live in South Africa. Cities such as Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban are cosmopolitan and exciting places to live. Whilst Johannesburg especially can get a bad press for high crime rates, figures are often effected greatly by crime 'hotspots'. Whilst this is a huge problem that South Africa will need to combat, the positive truth is that many areas enjoy a relatively crime free existence. Furthermore the climate in South Africa is an attractive factor to take in to account when setting up a new home. After a day of work in Cape Town it is conceivable that you can hit a sandy beach to relax in the evening sun.
South Africa continues to draw in workers from around the world given the presence of many large multinational corporations. Perhaps more of a 'hidden gem' Mozambique has also been touted as an excellent place to live in Africa. After a difficult period in the 90s when the country was embroiled in civil war, Mozambique has emerged as a more stable nation which has been largely undiscovered by the wider world. However, gradually people are realising that in Mozambique you really can get off the beaten track and enjoy a peaceful existence with fantastic weather.
Kenya is also seen as a destination nation in Africa with increased foreign investment boosting businesses both in the capital Nairobi ans around the country. Like Johannesburg, Nairobi has traditionally suffered a bad press but visitors will remark that the city is incredibly vibrant and exciting, with some districts proving very plush indeed. Perhaps Africa will really begin to put itself on the map as a realistic destination of choice for many citizens around the world to set up home.
